Anasounds Sandman Double Overdrive

Last month, we were able to check out the amazing Utopia Deluxe Echo Delay from Anasounds, and were floored by the amount of sonic options packed into such a compact enclosure. Today, we’re looking at another pedal with similar attributes, but switching gears as far as effect genre is concerned. The Sandman Double Overdrive combines two of Anasounds’ previous pedals into one unit, gives them some upgrades and crushes any amp or rig that you dare to throw at it…

Here’s the Sandman, a pedal that brings together Anasounds’ successful Savage MkI (left footswitch with the large knobs) and the FX Teacher Ego Driver, their upgraded version of a certain classic mid-boost overdrive. The first overdrive launched by Anasounds in 2015, the Savage MkI was inspired by the famous US transparent overdrive which now sells for the price of a Custom Shop guitar. If you’re lusting after the beautiful vintage sound of the Savage MkI, here it is in all its original glory, with the Germanium / Silicon switch in order to choose your clipping, except now you can also push it way beyond its limits in terms of gain and mids.

The Ego Driver still has its very potent three-position tone switch (low-mids, mids, hi-mids) that makes it much more versatile and allows the two parts of the Sandman to sonically interact in many ways. You can put it before a preamp or an already saturated amp, to boost and add presence. But also after a fuzz, to give it more definition and midrange. The two channels can be used separately or together, for different textures.

In addition to sounding incredible, these two perfectly complementary overdrives will take up little space on your pedalboard, especially when compared to the enormity of the sounds they offer. Anasounds has even provided an extra slot for clipping diodes internally on the Sandman, if you want to experiment with your own diodes.
