I love the old Power Series pedals from Ibanez, as do many players and collectors around the planet. Produced in the ’80s, this lineup features just about every effect you could want, and a couple you probably never knew even existed. Today, we’re looking at the SS10 Session-Man Distortion Chorus, one of the rarer and more sought-after units from this series. Instant nostalgia and vintage tones are the focus here, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring it to you all…
The SS10 Session-Man combines two incredible analog circuits (FC10 Fat Cat Distortion & SC10 Super Stereo Chorus) built into one pedal. You get that legendary Rat sound on one side and a true Ibanez BBD chorus on the other. Parallel or Series options make this pedal incredibly versatile – you can dial chorus only, distortion only, or both (again in Series or Parallel). Parallel mode will give your leads a little or a lot of movement, while Series provides instant ’80s nostalgia (check out our review and demo for the Session-Man II here as well).
The Power Series are an odd bunch – some can be had for 50 bucks, some for $500+ – it all depends on the effect. The SS10 Session-Man tends to fall on the latter side, though maybe not quite as spendy. In any case, it sounds fantastic, and conjures up sounds that will whisk you back 40 years…if you weren’t alive then, you’ll get to discover a whole new world that will add to your playing and experimentation. Be sure to check out our demo video below, this one is really, really fun…cheers!
