It’s hard to believe that it has been an entire decade since I had a Devi Ever : FX pedal in the office, but I think you’re gonna dig this one. The Brown LP Overdrive Fuzz combines Devi Ever’s Electric Brown and LP Overdrive pedals into one small enclosure – but don’t be fooled, kiddos, this seemingly tame unit is anything but. Packing the auditory wallop and sonic punch you need, along with a special secret ingredient, this pedal cooks up tones unlike anything you’ve seen or heard before…
There’s a surprisingly wide range of sounds trapped in the Brown LP, especially for having just 2 knobs. Zazz controls the amount of dirt present, while Volume adjusts the output level. There are instant fuzz sounds here as soon as you engage the pedal, making this way more of a hybrid effect that just a straightforward drive pedal. For me, the key here is the Skip toggle, which engages a vinyl record skipping effect. This leads to some tremolo-esque sounds, sputtery fuzzes and all-out wild experimentation you can create and have fun with for days.
It’s always hard to get the real scoop on whether or not Devi Ever : FX is still in business, but their pedals have always been unique and a blast to play. If you see any of them pop up on the used market, I wouldn’t hesitate to scopp them up, especially if you’re a knob twister and like to step outside of the box a little bit. Be sure to check out our demo below, and thanks to Anthony over at Marla Amps for letting me borrow this one to review, cheers!!
