It’s been about a year since we had a pedal from DPE Pedals in the shop, but after the gloriousness that was the Chromosome Dual Overdrive, I was excited to see what they had in store for me. The DC-30 EF86 Valve Preamp exceeded all my expectations, taking the world of preamp pedals to another level, and really punching my amps and eardrums alike. The DC-30 is based on the inspirations of the handwired EF86 Tube preamps from the early 90’s. The heart of this preamp is a EF86 (6267) Valve running at High Voltage. If you ever wanted to get the crystal clear crunch of the classic EF86 Tube Preamps, this is IT! The DC-30 is a two-stage switchable design allowing it to switch from a Clean channel to a Dirty channel, with independent Gain and Volume settings. There’s a Depth control here as well, a 4-position rotary switch that allows you to let more low end travel through your signal. All of this comes together as one of the baddest preamps I’ve played, with gorgeous sound and a wonderful range of options to boot.
