Small, pedalboard-friendly effects units are always nice to have on hand, especially for an overcrowded signal chain that takes up a lot of real estate. The fine folks at Tone City continue to recognize and build on this, as evidenced by today’s pedal, the Sweet Cream v2025 Transparent Overdrive. If you like your drives crunchy with an edge of break-up tonality, this pedal is really worth checking out!
The Tone City Sweet Cream is a quite transparent overdrive with smooth-sounding and full of dynamics like amp-like response. In this version 2025, a Tone knob and a toggle switch have been added. The Tone knob helps you to adjust the brightness, and the toggle switch gets you from two different clipping modes. Switching to the right gets the original version tone, while turning to the left produces a slightly higher distortion with more sense of compression.
This tiny monster helps you control the gain you want, and push the distortion channel of your amp to make the distortion more plump. It works wonderfully for adding low-gain grit to a clean signal, while also stacking well with other drive pedals to achieve huge, rich distorted tones. You’ll also find it has a unique ‘Touch’ control, which adjusts the ratio of distortion and clean signal, for changes the overall response and feel of the pedal, such as EQ and compression.
The Sweet Cream v2025 Transparent Overdrive gives you a wider range of tones than its no-frills layout suggests, making it a solid option for even the most fastidious of tone-chasers! Although it’s a mini-sized pedal, the controls are usable at almost any setting from 0 to 10, making it very versatile and easy to use. The lineup of pedals from Tone City feature just about every effect genre you can think of, and are available from our friends at Osiamo Music Gear.
