Olinthus Earwig - World's Smallest Fuzz

Towards the end of last year, I was lucky enough to have the crew at Olinthus send over their flagship pedal, the Cicada Overdrive. Not only did it sound incredible, but it was far and away the smallest effects unit I had ever seen. Fast forward to today, and we’ve got their latest creation for you all to check out – help us welcome into the world Earwig – World’s Smallest Fuzz.

The Earwig delivers a huge range of thunderously beautiful fuzz sounds, stuffed into the smallest effects pedal on the planet. Inspired by the 1969 Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi*, Earwig shoehorns a giant variety of iconic fuzz sounds into the smallest effects pedal ever created. Earwig utilizes four cascading gain stages, featuring silicon transistors and symmetrical clipping diodes, producing rich sustain and pleasing harmonic distortion. This pedal may be tiny, but it has more than enough might to invade your ears with ferocious distortion and sustain.

Roaring distortion, pulverizing crunch, and syrupy sustain—all in a comically small footprint. Earwig gives you beautifully ferocious fuzz tones and luscious sustain in a package that’s nearly as small as a 9-volt battery. It challenges our notions of what an effects pedal has to be, a new world of possibilities opened up that we never expected. Turns out, making it small also makes it pretty awesome. The circuit’s signature tone stack blends treble-boosted and bass-boosted frequencies, yielding an extensive range of versatile fuzz tones. It’s like magic, but it’s actually science.

It’s truly amazing how Olinthus got all of this circuitry into an enclosure this small, but they did, and it sounds rad. Three tiny knobs produce of wonderful range of tones, from crunchy breakup to all-out fuzz madness.
