There’s a very distinct look and feel to effects from Supercool Pedals, and I have grown to love each and every one of their releases I’ve had to opportunity to check out. Today’s pedal, The Cutback Preamp-Style Distortion, is no different, continuing a strong tradition of dirt pedals from our neighbor to the North. Conjuring up sounds from one of my favorite all-time preamp pedals, this chill beast will encourage you to ride the sonic waves and hang super loose, bruv…SURF’S UP!!
Based on the legendary DOD 250 overdrive circuit (and evolving from Supercool’s own fan-favourite”800″ Preamp/Distortion), The Cutback is artfully designed to deliver a wide array of sounds. The wide range here moves from warm pre-amp tones and natural amp-like breakup, all the way to searing distortions. This super diverse preamp-style distortion pedal is designed to deliver a perfectly crafted front-of-amp or distortion sound to your guitar, bass, or instrument of choice. The Cutback is a perfect catch-all drive pedal for any guitarist (no matter the genre of music or style of playing) and boasts two selectable gain modes: 0.01% for boosts and overdrives that respond playfully to player’s dynamics, and 8% for more saturated and intense distortions, and its carefully-tuned active 3-band EQ allows for subtle or dramatic tone shaping to further add to its wide use cases and sonic possibilities.
The Cutback’s highlights include:
- Based on the iconic DOD 250 overdrive circuit
- Dual GAIN selection (0.01% and 8%) for low or high distortion modes
- Active 3-band EQ (LOW, MID, HIGH) for comprehensive tone shaping
- Wide array of gain uses, from pre-amp grit, boost, overdrive, and distortion
- Sounds great on guitar OR bass
- Captivating and nostalgic 1980’s Surf Design
- Glows in the dark for maximum tubular radness
- True Bypass switching with standard 9v center negative power supply
- Designed and assembled in Canada
I think versatility is a key factor in a good dirt pedal, and there’s no shortage of that here with The Cutback Preamp-Style Distortion. From vintage, classic tones to modern, amp-kicking glory, this one has truly got something for everyone, regardless of musical style or genre. It’s always a pleasure to play an effects pedal from Jamie and Supercool Pedals, and I thanks him once again for sending this beauty my way to check out. Please be sure to visit the Supercool website to snag one of these bad boys for yourself, and don’t forget to check out the rest of their impressive pedal lineup…cheers!!
