Running one pedal company has got to be tough, but TWO?? That’s the case with our friend Antonio from Andalucia, Spain, who heads up both Luxury Tone FX and M Pedals, the latter of which we’re focusing on today. Come along as we investigate the wonders trapped inside the Colossus Overdrive Dumbleit, an ode to an amplifier sound that’s sought by many and actually obtainable by few. You might not sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robben Ford, John Mayer, Carlos Santana or Trey Anastasio, but this pedal just might get you a little closer to your goal…

The Colossus is an overdrive pedal that recreates those mythical tones of classic amplifiers designed and built by Howard Alexander Dumble. These amplifiers have gained notoriety over the past 50 years, not only for their road-ready, unbreakable builds, but for their unique and extremely customizable sound and tone. In the spirit of the Dumble amps it is intended to honor, Colossus is designed for those who prioritize playing with their “soul,” without neglecting technique and virtuosity.

The Colossus Overdrive features an additional switch to change between two different clipping modes. These modes affect the overall gain control: to the right, you get a more open and grainy sound; to the left, you get a more compressed sound with more sustain, both of which you will love. The Tone & PRS (Presence) controls work together, to help you sculpt and shape your tone to perfection.

Although inspired by legendary effects from the ’60s and ’70s, each M Pedals unit is designed and built from scratch – they even manufacture their own PCBs, and are more than happy to answer any questions about the construction of their effects. The Colossus Overdrive Dumbleit has a ton of range, a ton of tone and is a fitting tribute to what have now become basically unobtainable amplifiers. Be sure to head to the M Pedals website (and check out their sister company Luxury Tone FX website, too), but only after you’ve watched our rad demo video on YouTube – cheers!!
