Pelican x Dead Air Resonance Reverb 1

As far as heavy, instrumental, post-metal music is concerned, the dudes in Pelican are in the upper echelon, and have been at the forefront for 25 years. Today’s pedal sees them collaborate with Dead Air Studios to bring us the Resonance Reverb, a seemingly simple pedal that is anything but, fitting their specific style of music to a T. If you like metal music, ambient stuff or just adding another layer to your sound or style, this creative device is gonna knock your socks off…

Laurent from Pelican and Will from Dead Air teamed up to create an inspired reverb with its own character and texture – based on the idea of creating a reverb that feels like it’s interacting with your playing and resonates in interesting ways. On this journey they took some unusual paths, starting from the foundation of the Belton Brick and weaving a design around it that pushes into unique territories – straddling the lines between out of control oscillation and lengthy decay with evocative depth.

FEEDBACK
Here the reverb signal is routed back into its input, creating longer decays and self oscillation. The FEEDBACK control is extremely interactive with the REVERB knob, yielding numerous sweet spots with different amounts of swirling highs, and haunting atmospheres. Turn down for tighter, cleaner reverb sounds, and turn up for increased atmosphere and vibe.

ALTERNATE (FOOTSWITCH & KNOB)
Here is an alternate routing for the feedback path of the reverb. Set high and use it to create reverberated blooms or swells, or all out self-oscillating cacophonies. Set it low and use it to tighten up the reverb for punctuated moments or reign in some chaos. This alternate feedback path will only be enabled while the ALTERNATE footswitch is held down, making it easy to incorporate into any performance.

REVERB
This controls the volume of the reverb in the signal path. All the way down is no reverb, and while all the way up isn’t 100% wet, the reverb will be washing over the dry signal leaving almost no trace in its wake.

VOLUME
The output volume of the pedal, with a healthy amount of boost on tap for making sure your signal still cuts through the mix. Alternatively, set the volume below noon and use it to clean up a dirty amp for a pseudo clean channel!

This blue beauty adds a lot of dimension and ambience to your sound, and works great with both clean and dirty amplifiers. We explore both of these in our demo video below, and get some pretty far-out tonal nuances along the way. The Alternate settings are so much fun, sending your signal into the sonic abyss, and letting YOU control when it comes back to reality. Thanks so much to the guys in Pelican, Dead Air Studios and Run For Cover Records for sending this pedal my way – I talked to Trevor when I saw Pelican at Eulogy here in Asheville last year, and he told me that the Resonance Reverb was in the works…so glad it finally made it’s way here, be sure to grab one for yourself!! Cheers!!
