The fine folks at Electro-Harmonix recently sent over their Pico Atomic Cluster Spectral Decomposer, and it was an absolute blast to demo. In that same package, another mini pedal had also arrived: the Pico Intelligent Harmony Machine, a pint-sized harmonizer that looks just as fun as it sounds. I am always baffled by how these pedal designers cram so much tone and functionality into such a small enclosure, but however they do it, it works, as you’ll see today…
Packing the powerful diatonic functionality of the Electro-Harmonix Intelligent Harmony Machine into an ultra-compact pedal, it’s the Pico IHM. Create 2 or 3-part harmony in any key with silky smooth operation and lightning fast-tracking to keep up with any speedy lick. With 10 Interval options, a Mix knob for precision voice blending and space-saving footprint, the Pico Intelligent Harmony Machine is the perfect pocket sideman.

Housed in Electro-Harmonix’s pico-sized chassis, the Pico IHM comes complete with a simple control set. The Key knob, in conjunction with the # button, sets the key of the harmonies produced. Interval selects from one of 10 harmonic interval options (OCTAVE DOWN – SIXTH DOWN – FOURTH DOWN – THIRD DOWN – THIRD UP – FOURTH UP – FIFTH UP – SIXTH UP – SEVENTH UP – OCTAVE UP). The Mix and Vol knobs adjust the wet/dry mix and output volume respectively. Holding down the # button enters Dual Mode, which adds a second voice to the harmony produced, for stunning 3-part harmonies when mixed with the dry signal.
The Pico IHM generates diatonic harmonies in a set key based on single notes played on your instrument – playing multiple notes or chords may not work well (but, as always, experimentation is strongly encouraged). The Pico Intelligent Harmony Machine is EHX’s most compact harmonizer ever – adding perfect, tight harmonies to your playing has never been easier! I run through some of my favorite settings in today’s demo video, while exploring the ins-and-outs of this marvelous little machine – thanks so much to Electro-Harmonix for sending this one over! Be sure to check out their website, watch our demo and then head to Sweetwater to snag one of these awesome, affordable creations for yourself – cheers!!
