In all my years doing pedal reviews, I have come across maybe a handful of stereo distortion pedals (like the Dunable Splatterblaster)…maybe. Sometimes, when the need arises, you just gotta build something yourself, which is exactly what the crew at Land Devices did with the Hunter Stereo Distortion. Killer connectivity options + a wide scope of dirt tones = one badass mamajama (and this one is bright red, too!) – come along as we explore just some of what this powerful device can do…
Hunter is based on a classic op-amp circuit with proper tone shaping added. Independent treble and bass controls let you really dial things in. Right in the middle of the panel is the Dry/Wet blend, because let’s be honest—sometimes you want a little dirt, not a full face-melt. It’s especially great for keeping bass low-end intact or bringing texture to synths without losing clarity. Perfect for live tweaks, studio blends, or just making cool stuff sound cooler.
Like so many effects, Hunter was developed out of necessity; a friend of Land Devices needed a stereo gain effects pedal with a blend control. None were to be found, so they made it themselves, and the result is pretty amazing.
GAIN: Turn clockwise to increase distortion
LVL: Output volume level
Dry|Wet: Fully CCW is 100% dry signal. Fully CW is 100% wet signal
HI: Controls treble frequency. CCW for less, CW for more
LO: Controls bass frequency. CCW to less, CW for more
So many Stereo pedals have only Mono in and Stereo out, or you rarely see a dirt pedal with stereo capabilities – the Hunter Stereo Distortion solves both of these problems, as the ins and out can be used with mono or stereo connections. I think this really opens up a new world for folks who love their stereo setups, but maybe haven’t found the right piece of gear to play well with the other effects. I get some help from our pals at Death By Audio and Strymon in the demo video I did, adding some channel ebbing and flowing into the mix, for a wide variety of sounds. More info over on the Land Devices website, cheers!!
