Well, we’re back with another New Company Friday – this go-round features our first foray into the world of AceTone Electronics, a company founded in the Netherlands where passion for music and craftsmanship come together to create extraordinary sound experiences. Today, we’re checking out their MWK-01 Mojo Work King Overdrive, a bright, bold green effect that is ready to unleash a new brand of dirt onto the world. Don’t let the simple control section throw you off course: this pedal has got ALL the goods, and more…
Unleash raw, uncompressed power with the Mojo Work King, an overdrive pedal that bridges the gap between transparent boost and full-blown distortion. This isn’t a polite, amp-like overdrive; it’s a bold, aggressive circuit that adds its own distinct character while maintaining exceptional clarity and punch across the entire frequency spectrum. The Mojo Work King’s defining trait is its open, dynamic response that refuses to squash your playing into submission. Unlike heavily compressed overdrives, this pedal preserves your attack and lets every note breathe with natural sustain and harmonic richness.
The result is a thick, full-bodied drive tone with substantial low-end grunt, present midrange bark, and sparkling treble that cuts through without harshness. At lower gain settings, you’ll find chunky rhythm tones with excellent string separation perfect for complex chord voicings. Crank the Mojo (Drive) and you’re in high-gain territory with singing sustain and a firm, articulate edge that works equally well for crunchy power chords or scorching lead lines. An internal voice switch lets you toggle between tighter, more focused drive or a looser, more open character with enhanced bass response, effectively giving you two distinct pedals in one enclosure.
The MWK-01 Mojo Work King Overdrive excels at pushing already-overdriven amps into higher gain territory while maintaining definition, but it’s equally impressive running into clean amps where its robust, amp-independent voice truly shines. There’s a lot of range here for a seemingly simple three-knobber, letting you really experiment anf find the perfect drive sound you’ve been chasing. Plus, it looks cool as can be. There’s a lot more info on this and the rest of their impressive pedal lineup over on the AceTone Electronics website – thanks to those guys for sending me this one to check out, along with some others that you’ll see coming soon… Don’t miss our demo video on YT, too – this one’s a scorcher, cheers!!
