You know when you know a new pedal is coming, but it won’t be released for months, and the anticipation is killing you?? Well, that’s how I (and many, many others) have felt about today’s pedal, the Keeley Electronics RK2000 Funk Siren Delay. A modern ode to a classic, perhaps under-appreciated rack delay from decades past, this gray box is full of more options, tones and sounds than you’ll know what to do with…and that’s exactly why I love it.

The RK2000 Funk Siren Delay is a studio-quality stereo delay pedal designed to bridge the gap between classic rack delay units and modern pedalboard functionality. It features up to 1023ms of delay time, a dedicated HOLD function for infinite repeats, and an LFO-driven modulation section capable of everything from subtle movement to the signature “Funk Siren” pitch warbles. The sonic possibilities here are seemingly endless.

I’ve had an Ibanez DM2000 Digital Delay rack unit for close to 15 years now, and the RK2000 takes all that is amazing about that machine and builds on it. The Modulation is awesome on its own, but when you combine it with the Hold function, that’s when all conventional sounds get tossed right out the window. Jacks on the top panel also include Remote TRS jack, for external Mod/Bypass switching, and an Exp/MIDI TRS jack for controlling different parameters, instantly recalling any of the 127 presets, and syncing with external devices (such as an external MIDI clock). You can also choose Parallel or Ping Pong delay modes, which both sound incredible in a Stereo setup.

Being that the DM2000 is one of the tools used by guitarist Trey Anastasio of Phish since the mid-80s, you might assume that the RK2000 Funk Siren Delay is just for jam band fans, but it most certainly is not. This delay opens up a million sonic possibilities, no matter what kind of music you play, and its quite easy to get lost for several hours without even realizing it when experimenting with this machine. I know Robert and the Keeley crew have been excited about this one for a while now, and their hard work and patience has paid off in all the best ways. Head to the Keeley Electronics website for more info, and don’t skip our lengthy demo video, where we barely scratch the surface of what the RK2000 can do…enjoy, cheers!!
