After a little breather, I’m back with a powerful, exciting pedal for you all today! Our first foray into the world of Evil Eye FX brings us the Paladin V2 Overdrive Distortion, a powerful, instantly eye-catching unit that’s based on a rare circuit from 40 or so years ago. With a ton of volume, gorgeous crunch and two different clipping modes, this one will take your rig to the next level…
The Paladin is a modern remake of a unique hidden gem overdrive of the 1980s – the Yamaha OD-10MII – with a few key modifications and added features. The V2 is a slight update on the Paladin circuit based on extensive customer feedback. The same core Yamaha OD-10MII tone remains in the second version, but Evil Eye FX have added more output volume and reconfigured the clipping options. The Paladin V2 features the stock symmetrical silicon clipping of the original OD-10MII, but adds an asymmetrical LED clipping option, offering even more output to drive dirty amplifiers and other pedals.
The Si clipping mode provides symmetrical silicon diode clipping, matching the original OD-10MII circuit, while the LED mode gives you asymmetrical LED clipping, offering less compression and more output. Bringing this circuit into the 21st century, the Paladin also includes several quality-of-life improvements, like silent soft touch true-bypass switching, top-mounted jacks, high-end German-made hardware and premium internal components, and of course – badass Dark Souls/DnD inspired artwork.
Thanks to a powerful tone control that is highly usable across its broad sweep, the Paladin offers a ton of nuanced tonal variation. Not for the faint of heart, prepare yourself to be blown away by the sonic prowess this pedal provides. I’m so excited to be working with Evil Eye FX, and if the Paladin V2 Overdrive Distortion is any indication, there will be lots more amazing gear coming from these guys. Be sure to visit their website for more info, order a pedal or two for yourself, and don’t forget to check out our full demo on YouTube – cheers!!
