The DigiTech Whammy II Harmonizer & Pitch Shift / Bender is one of my favorite pedals EVER. And no, it’s not just because Trey from Phish has been using it for like 35 years…well, maybe a little, but I digress. These units, as rad as they are, aren’t the most reliable, given their age, as with lots of gear that just needs the right love. Our friends over at Keeley Electronics now offer a service that brings these wonderful pedals back to life, ensuring weird sounds will be created for decades more…
After working on Trey Anastasio’s Whammy II pedals, Keeley Electronics were approached by Ryan of Trey’s Guitar Rig, and asked if they could provide some repair or restoration of these old vintage units. Justin Stabler was kind enough to send over enough units to repair that now the Keeley crew has some experience with them. The goal with this repair/restoration service is to help rescue these pedals from a life on a shelf or in a closet. In the famous words of Monty Python, “Bring Out Your Dead”.
The Keeley Electronics Digitech Whammy II Restoration / Repair Service Includes:
• Replacing all leaky capacitors
• Replacing all switches
• Replacing heat-damaged regulators and worn-out potentiometers as and if needed
I sent my beloved unit over to the Keeley shop, and got it back in sparkling condition. These things have a tendency to just drop the signal out of nowhere, and that is no longer an issue. I’ve had this Whammy II now for over 15 years, and am looking forward to it lasting the rest of my lifetime, thanks to Robert and his amazing crew! Check out our demo, and if you have one of these laying around, don’t hesitate to get it sounding incredible once again!!
