Evil Eye FX Warg Fuzz 1

Last month, I got my hands on my first effects unit from the crew at Evil Eye FX – the Paladin V2 Overdrive Distortion, as was quite impressed by the build and sonic quality. Today, we’re checking out the 2nd pedal in their lineup, the Warg Fuzz, which takes a lost, semi-unknown fuzz circuit and brings it into the 21st century, roaring as it does so. If the graphics don’t let you immediately know this pedal means business, you certainly will once you hear it in action!

Evil Eye FX Warg Fuzz 2

As savage as its namesake, the Warg Fuzz is a modern revamp of the Ace Tone “Fuzz Master” FM-3 – a little known but uniquely aggressive high-gain pedal made by the predecessor of Roland/BOSS in 1971. One of the earliest Big Muff derivatives ever, the FM-3 circuit topology is similar to that of a version 1 Muff, but with wildly different components and a change in the volume control location, resulting in a more articulate, aggressive, high gain fuzz, perfect for down-tuning (if that’s your thing).

Bringing this circuit into the 21st century, the Warg introduces an additional EQ profile switch to flatten out the scooped midrange of the original fuzz, perfect for cutting through a mix and melting the face off any wretch foolish enough to cross its path. Here, the “flat” position puts your guitar front and center with a punchy midrange, while the “scoop” setting is perfect for casting a massive wall of fuzzy sludgy destruction. Despite its feral exterior, the Warg is refined under the hood, with several quality-of-life improvements, like silent soft touch true-bypass switching, top-mounted jacks, high-end German-made hardware and premium internal components.

The Warg Fuzz features NoClick™ silent soft touch switching system via an internal relay, with German-made jacks and premium internal components, and is hand forged in Philadelphia, PA. I love when old, forgotten circuits get a rebirth in our modern era, and the Warg Fuzz is an excellent example of this being brought to fruition. Thanks again to Evil Eye FX for sending this one my way – be sure to visit their website, and check out our demo…cheers!!
