This past summer, I had the privilege to enter the world of effects from Polyend – their MESS Multi-Effect Step Sequencer and PRESS Analog Stereo Compressor are two of the most beautiful and excellent-sounding units I’ve seen, and I’ve got another gem from these guys for you all today. The ENDLESS Stereo Effects Creation Platform lets you literally type in what kind of pedal you want, and the unique PLAYGROUND system turns your description into a playable device in minutes. I have never seen anything quite like this, but let me tell you, it sure is fun…
The name plate on my ENDLESS unit says Delay, but don’t let that fool you: you can create anything your mind can dream up (just about). You simply go to the PLAYGROUND website, type in what you’d like the effect to be (Analog Delay + Tube Screamer, for example) and in 5-15 minutes, depending on the complexity, your effect is ready to go. Plug ENDLESS into your computer, drag and drop the newly created file and your pedal/effect is live! And don’t worry: if the aesthetics of the plate don’t grab you, there are plenty more you can choose from and interchange (check out the gallery here).
2000 PLAYGROUND tokens ($20 worth) come with your purchase of ENDLESS – the amount for each effect you create depends on the complexity of the effect and the number of iterations. A simple delay could cost $1.00 or $2.00, whereas a complex granular looper might cost up to $5.00. Polyend felt this was the best option for their users: no subscriptions, no Cloud, no monthly fee. Just pay to use it if you need it. With ENDLESS, you also get Stereo In and Out with 48 kHz / 24-bit with a clean, low-noise, studio-grade analog input and output preamps, a custom-machined aluminum enclosure and knobs, plus customizable TRS expression pedal support, pushing the boundaries of what you can create even further.
There’s a great community surrounding ENDLESS, too – once you create your effects, you can share them, as well as download other effects from other mad audio scientists. The possibilities here are fairly…well, ENDLESS, to put it bluntly. In the demo I made, I show you how I create and then utilize 5 different effects, ranging from drive to reverb to octave to delay to tremolo and more. Check out the Polyend website for all the info on ENDLESS and the rest of their rad lineup – special thanks to those guys for sending me some amazing gear to explore, cheers!!
