Fuzz pedals can sometimes be finicky, sputtery and strange, and that’s not always what you need…but when it’s EXACTLY what you want, look no further than the ZVEX Effects Fuzz Factory Vexter. One of their most beloved pedals, this classically un-classic fuzz takes you to the breaking point of musical sanity, and then shoves you right over. We’re excited to check this one out, as I’m sure you are,...

2-in-1 effects are always a treat – just having more than one option of sound in a single pedal can instantly open up ideas and get the creative train a’rollin’. Two switchable Boost/Distortion circuits are what awaits us in today’s pedal, the ZVEX Effects Double Rock Vexter Distortion, which squeezes elements from THREE other ZVEX effects into one enclosure. This one is loud, crisp and amp-thumping, to say the...

We’ve been ensconced in the throws of Chase Bliss Audio products for years now (see CXM 1978, Preamp MkII, Blooper, Gen Loss, MOOD, etc), and are always excited when they put out a new piece of gear. The first run of today’s pedal sold out pretty quickly, as did the second, of which we were lucky enough to snag one, and are so glad we did. The Bliss Factory Fuzz is a collaboration between Chase Bliss and ZVEX Effects, who...

The last couple of pedals we’ve checked out from ZVEX Effects have been pretty wild, untamed and crazy, to say the least. Today’s pedal brings us back into reality, if just a hair, for a truly powerful and rocking overdrive/distortion effect, via the Box of Rock. A classic in its own right, this little silver gem appears on pedalboards and in rigs throughout the world, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on one to...

Getting pedals that come through the shop without a distinct label as to what they are or what they can do is always intriguing, and our featured pedal for today baffled us until we had the chance to plug it in. The Instant Lo-Fi Junky from ZVEX Effects is a compressor, chorus, vibrato and more, an sound experimenter’s dream in a small, pedalboard-friendly enclosure, with controls that are basic, but create a wide palette of...

It’s always fun to experiment with guitar pedals on bass, and bass pedals on guitar as well. Today’s bass-oriented fuzz sounds incredible on guitar, with a tremendous bottom end beautiful harmonic structure for any six-string machine to bond with. The Woolly Mammoth from ZVEX Effects shows us that low frequencies can be enjoyed by other instruments besides bass, and that we all still think fuzz effects kick ass. As far as...

The original Fuzz Factory pedal from Z.Vex Effects has been a go-to fuzz for players across the globe for years, and has gained notoriety as one of the finest fuzzboxes available on the market today. Well, Z.Vex has upped the ante a bit more with another incarnation of this classic fuzz, it’s big brother, the Fat Fuzz Factory. Plus, mine is a limited hand-painted edition, which makes it that much cooler, right? Let’s have...

Along the way in this awesome pedal adventure of mine, I come across a TON of pedal builders, and try to do my best to help out all the little companies I can: get their name out into the world, get links from my site and social media pages to theirs and, of course, buy a pedal whenever the funds present themselves. I’ve been looking for a simple, one knob, always on boost/preamp pedal as of late, and decided to take a chance on...

Wow. This fuzz is a fuzz + a fuzz…times 38. I love the Z.Vex enclosures, great for fitting easily onto any pedalboard, and built like a Mack truck. The Fuzz Factory has become a fuzz staple on many boards around the world, so I figured I should probably try it out and see what it could do. 5 knobs for a fuzz looks a little complex, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll have a blast dialing in your fuzz tones. The Gate...

The Z.Vex Effects Fuzzolo is a very tiny silicon fuzz with a big sound. It has distinctive midrange cut that will send your lead through the band mix really well. It responses well with the volume knob. You can adjust the amount of gain by rolling the volume off since it only has volume control. Control wise it has volume and Pulse width. The latter one is fairly unique. To me, it acted like a noise gate. When I stopped touching the...
