Pigtronix EP2 Envelope PhaserThis was VERY exciting when it first arrived on my doorstep, and hasn’t gotten one bit dull since then. The EP2 Envelope Phaser from Pigtronix will take you clear to outer space, and then a bit further, before pulling you back slowly into sublime reality. You can switch between the envelope filter and the phaser with a tap of your foot, or use them both in conjunction to set the controls for the heart of the sun. Use the Depth knob to control the amount of the LFO modulation, while the Center knob places where the LFO will fall in the audio spectrum. The Speed knob does just what it says, and the 5 switches underneath the knobs provide a vast array of tonal landscapes. Tons of QUACK coming out of this little fella, no bones about it, everything from Mu-Tron-y funk sounds to thick, fat auto wah to HUGE auditory brain-melting out-of-this-world phasing, and everything else you could possibly image from a phaser or envelope filter.

As an added bonus to this beast, you can connect expression pedals to control the Speed and the Phase Sweep of the signal, and use the EF Trigger input to override the Input signal and connect directly to the envelope follower (haven’t tried that yet!). It looks a bit daunting at first, and it can be, but the amount of fun you can have with this pedal is immeasurable. I put all the knobs at noon, all the switches to the left, and just started playing…and I haven’t stopped. A truly remarkable piece of equipment from Pigtronix.
