Left Foot Pedals Zen Drive Clone

This is a curious pedal. There are no labels, so you don’t know what the knobs are (Volume is pretty easy, but the rest take a little work). Plus, Left Foot Pedals is no longer in business, I just found out, so there’s no way to ask anyone about any kind of information about this little red devil. Therefore, this review was a challenge (which I enjoy) and a pleasure all in one.

The original Zen Drive is highly sought-after, and though I’ve never played one, they sound awesome in the videos and audio clips I’ve heard. That said, this clone sounds really, really good, and close to what I’ve heard. Of course it’s not going to be an exact replica, but it seems like a lots of pedal clones are coming closer and closer to mimicking the originals they’re designed after, and this is no exception. Tough but warm overdrive, nice range on the Tone knob, and the (I think) Cut knob allows you to really control your sound. The drive sounds have a nice range as well, going from a slight boost to a borderline fuzzy overdrive, and pretty much everything else you can think of in between. Using all four knobs together creates a wall of sound, dialed in specifically by the user, to create a sonic masterpiece.

This pedal is clean and classy-looking, not a lot of frills but just enough extras to make it stand out from the pack. Oh, and it sounds pretty rad, too! Although they’re no longer making these beauties, Left Foot Pedals was really onto something with this Zen Drive Clone. If you can find one, I highly recommend scooping it up. Who knows, maybe this will be the next Klon? 🙂
