The Lorena Overdrive from Ohmless Pedals comes to us all the way from Germany, and boy am I glad it made the trip! A powerful but simple 3-knob drive pedal, it’s nice and trim for an easy fit on your pedalboard, and looks brilliant in a tame but stunning sea green enclosure with wicked-cool graphics. Here we go!
Volume, Tone and Drive are the control knobs yo’ll need to familiarize yourself with here (hopefully, you’ve played another guitar overdrive pedal before, so you know what these 3 do). The Tone control has a delicious range of sound: when you take out the highs, a stunning low-end beef is left, not muddy or sludgy, just low enough to take out some of the squelch and squeal. Add the highs back in, and go from a nice, neutral EQ to an high-end, ear-piercing extravaganza. The Drive knob has a big range as well, going from an excellent cleanish boost sound up to a warm and crunchy mid-gain tone. Ohmless uses a dual gang potentiometer on this knob, so the range can go from clean to an incredible diode clipped distortion sound.
Put this all together and you’ve got an awesome-sounding overdrive pedal. Everything seems to be in the right sonic place with the Lorena Drive, all the sounds coming out sound smooth and powerful, as they should. Plus, you can open up the back and select whether you want this little green monster to be True Bypass or a high-quality buffer, which is a great option to give users, especially if they have more pedals running before or after the Lorena. Crunchy and warm, smooth and buttery, loud but not overbearing – the Lorena Drive has a little something for everyone.
