Mad Professor Simble Overdrive

This being my first foray into the world of Mad Professor pedals, I was excited to see what their Simble Overdrive had to offer. Having seen their gear around for a long time, I knew they had a great reputation for making some killer pedals, and the Simble was an excellent way to delve into their huge catalog of effects. Not too heavy on the drive, great tones and some new controls to boot, this is one fun pedal.

You should know what the Level control on most any effects pedal does by now, so I’m gonna skip an in-depth explanation of that knob. The Sensitivity knob here controls the amount of distortion and compression coming from the pedal, like a Drive knob would do. Nice range here, from a great clean boost to a crunchy mid-gain drive-type sound, useful in so many applications. The Contour controls the brightness level of the output signal, acting like a Tone knob, adding in or taking away the highs, depending on your preference. The last knob is Accent, which adjusts the pick attack before the drive comes on, which makes for some fun experimentation with the rest of the controls.

The Simble Overdrive screams quality, from the organic nature of the overdrive to the tube-like compression and sensitive dynamics, your guitar and amp’s tones are really allowed to shine through when using this pedal, without coloration or tonal adjustment whatsoever. If this is an example of what they’re churning out over at Mad Professor, I’m gonna want to try a lot more of their pedals, believe you me!
