Will Sledge FX Slim Drive - Pedal of the Day

Will Sledge FX Slim Drive

First things first, I’d like to say how slick the pedals being produced over at Will Sledge FX look, all scuffed up but classy, very minimalist but bold. Dig it. Anyway, the real reason we’re here is to talk about one of their awesome pedals, the small but powerful Slim Drive. The latest in our review crop of space-saving pedals, the Slim Drive features 2 control knobs and a bypass switch (the one I’m reviewing also happens to be the FIRST of it’s kind, with a toggle switch that add an additional gain stage). Let’s check it out!

Only having 2 knobs, you’d think the Slim Drive would be fairly easy to figure out…and you’d be right. But, while there’s not much in the way of options, you don’t really need them when the pedal sounds so good. The Volume level here is BIG, don’t let the size of the enclosure fool you. You’ll be able to be heard in any mix you throw at this thing, and while it’s touted as an overdrive, the Slim Drive cleans up fairly nicely as well, for a clean(ish) boost with just a slight crunch. That brings us to the Gain knob. While not overly aggressive or distorted, it doesn’t need to be, as it’s a transparent overdrive, not a heavy metal powerhouse. Warm crunch, smooth sounds and the power to push your tube amp into the sweet spot, this pedal has got a lot going for it. Plus, you add in this new toggle switch, and gets pushed into the next level of drive, adding another dimension to your playing.

Small? Yes. Good-looking? Yes. Powerful? Sounds great? Could replace your current overdrive? Yes. Yes. Yes. I’m digging the Slim Drive, and now I can’t wait to review more stuff from Will and Will Sledge FX. Thanks for letting me test this one out, guys, can’t wait to see what comes next!

  1. I’ve been trying to find videos online where I can actually hear the product but unfortunately there is only one. Need to do my homework before making this purchase but I do like what I’m reading and hearing about this pedal and new boutique brand.
