6 Degrees FX Millie FuzzI dig it when I get to review a bunch of pedals from the same builder all at once, and the crew over at 6 Degrees FX is making some pedals that I am going to have a lot of fun testing out, the first of which is the Millie Fuzz. This pedal just looks cool, like some kind of race car from the mid-70’s, and it’s a big, thick piece of metal, with nice big knobs and easily accessible footswitches. Not to mention is sounds incredible…

The Millie Fuzz is based on the old Fuzz Face pedals, and incorporates the EQ specs from a Big Muff, so it’s kind of the best of both worlds. Level, Tone and Gain make up the main controls here, with the Tone having a HUGE range: anything from swampy, dirty, sludge-ridden doom fuzz up to the brightest and sunniest fuzz tones you’ve heard, this thing can do it all. The Gain range is nice as well, stretching from a mild drive to a big time fuzzy crunch, with lots of tonal options in between. This pedal also features 2 stages of gain, using 2 separate footswitches. Click the right side (Crunch Channel), and you’ve got yourself a wonderful silicon fuzz tone, not over-the-top, but not shying away from anything either, with enough range and flexibility to fit any players’ low-gain fuzz needs. Hit that switch on the left (Burn Channel), and watch this puppy take off! By adding in another gain stage here, the Millie becomes a fuzz-driven beast, pumping out stronger, thicker, aggressive fuzz sounds, and pushing any amp into sweet, buzzsaw territory.

There are also 2 internal controls as well, just to shape your tone that much more. Adjust the overall attitude of the Burn Channel with one trimpot, from mild-mannered to super-aggressive, and then dial in the mids with trimpot 2, either fat or scooped. This pedal looks nice and simple, but with the broad ranges of tones and options, there’s a lot going on in such a space-saving enclosure. Bonus: it stands up at 2 full inches high, so you can put it almost anywhere on your board and it is easily accessible. Being able to jump from a smoother, milder fuzz to a raging terror in one stomp is nice as well, without having to futz around while you’re playing to get the aggressive tone you need to stand out in the crowd. Thanks to Ken and 6 Degrees FX for their generosity with the Millie and a couple others – stay tuned for more 6 Degrees FX reviews coming in the near future…
