Although a lot of older pedals from past decades have been reissued or reworked in some way, there’s just something awesome about holding a piece of history in your hand, and then turning that piece of history on and making some rad music with it. Such is the case with today’s pedal, the SCF Stereo Chorus Flanger (and Pitch Modulator) from TC Electronic. A great tool to use in multiple sonic settings, the SCF can be subtle, powerful and awesome, all at the same time.

Right away, you should find the main toggle switch on the SCF, as that it what allows you to select which mode you’ll be using once the pedal is engaged. Along with said toggle is an tiny Input Gain knob, perfect for getting the right amount of your guitar’s signal into the mix, without overloading or distorting the SCF’s overall effect. Each mode’s sound is controlled by 3 main control knobs: Speed creates a fast or slow sound, making a ton of experimentation easy as can be. The Width knob controls how wide the overall sweep or modulation is, opening up a whole new field of sound to be reckoned with, from a barely there presence to a full on effects heaven.

Finally, the Intensity knob has different uses for each flick of the toggle. In Chorus mode, it acts as a mix control for the dry and wet signals. In Flanger mode, it controls the strength of the Comb filter, like a feedback control almost. And in the Pitch Modulation mode, it is a blend control as well, but it’s blending chorus and vibrato together, for even bigger and better sonic opportunities. This Intensity knob really allows you to delve into the pedal, and see what it’s made of, and what you can coax out of it.

Being able to run in stereo (hence the name) is another key aspect to the SCF Stereo Chorus Flanger, as anyone who has played with a 2+ amp setup knows, especially with the chorus and flanger effects. Washing those from side to side (or amp to amp) created a totally different sound than a mono setup will give you, making a thick, tasty wall of delicious sonic awesomeness that’s hard to describe, but fun to play with and listen to, for sure. There’s even an external bypass jack on the top, incase you need to have the pedal on the back row of your board, and can’t reach it with ease – yet another intuitive option on a great pedal. If you’re looking for a classic, 3-in-1 pedal with a bunch of little options that make it really versatile and a great addition to your sound, you really might want to check out the SCF Stereo Chorus Flanger (and Pitch Modulator) from TC Electronic.
