crimsontone nero overdriveFor us here at Pedal of the Day, we see a LOT of overdrives come through, and while the majority of them are excellent pieces of gear, sometimes they all can seem a bit similar. Though they may sound, look and act differently, there a surefire standard for a simple overdrive pedal, one that is most certainly tried and true, but also can lack imagination and creativity. Today’s pedal, the Nero Overdrive from Crimsontone, is a bit of a breath of fresh air, in that it features some great options that differ from the norm, all while staying wrapped nicely in a perfect-sized enclosure.

While available in a standard three-knob unit, this particular pedal is the upgraded version, the Dual Gain model. Featuring both Bypass and A/B stomp switches, this version lets you toggle back and forth between two completely different overdrive settings, for a super-versatile drive that’s sure not to disappoint. There are 2 separate Gain knobs, one controlling the A, one controlling the B, so you can set them however you’d like. I liked to do one channel as kind of a low drive, and one with a little more dirt to it, perfect for ripping some solos when the time comes around, and giving your rig that extra push.

The other two knobs, Volume and Tone, work the same with both A and B sections of the pedal, but it’s really easy to find a sweet spot to set these both, so you don’t have to worry about fiddling with them on stage at all. Great as a boost, awesome as a drive and even reaching into slight distortion territory when cranked, the Nero Overdrive doesn’t take up much room on your board, but will add so much to your overall sound. Thanks again to Bryce at Crimsontone for sending this cool pedal over for us to check out, love the option to make an already killer pedal into something even more useful and sonically stunning. Check out the Crimsontone website for amps, effects and more – you’re sure to find something that will be right up your musical alley!
