Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe Delay Complex delay pedals can be confusing, sometimes hard to figure out and even extremely frustrating, but the payoff for hard work and actually reading the manual will ALWAYS pay off. That said, the Echolution 2 Deluxe Delay from our friends at Pigtronix features a more-than-slight learning curve, but it also packed with options and delay sounds not heard very often, in any pedal or context.

This delay is set up sort of like other delay pedals, with many of the same controls, but a few twists and turns here and there make it an echo tweaker’s dream effect. Each control, though, appears to have its own futuristic display, trying to explain what effects pedals will be like in the near future, but relaying that info in the present. Repeats and Mix are pretty standard, as is Time, which also lets you select from Short, Medium, Long, Pong and Halo modes on the fly.

Besides having 12 seconds (!!) of delay time to play with, the Echolution 2 Deluxe has a bunch of bells and whistles that really put it over the top (in the best of ways, we promise). You can sub-divide the tap tempos into 1, 3/4, 2/3, 1/2, and the golden ratio PHI. You can use the Bit Crusher Distortion Filter for some down and dirty delays. The modulation on this thing is nuts, too, letting you choose from 4 different waveforms for a slew of unique and unheard of sounds.

You can use the optional remote switch to access up to 60 (yes, sixty) presets on the fly, and you can assign any parameters to an expression pedal, too, for even more control over every aspect of the Echolution. Stereo In and Outputs, MIDI connectivity, remote and expression jacks and more, this delay is a monster. The filters section is badass as well, featuring Low Pass, Tape, Comb, and Sweep, for a real party time in delay town.

With analog circuitry and digital flexibility playing nice with one another, on top of more options than most of us will ever need in a delay (or any other) pedal, this is one for the experimenters out there, for sure! Though this model has been discontinued, you can still find them for reasonable prices, or if you want to, take the plunge into the newer models that are currently available. Either way, you’re going to be floored with the features and tones that are packed into such a friendly-sized enclosure, and won’t want to leave your house for roughly a month after sitting down with this bad boy for the first time.
