Ninevolt Pedals Fishing Is As Fun As Fuzz*SURPRISE SATURDAY REVIEW* We sure have had a fun time reviewing and demoing the lineup of pedals from our friends across the sea in Japan, Ninevolt Pedals, and today we’re going to take a look at another one of their classic effects. Now, if the name Fishing Is As Fun As Fuzz doesn’t make you smile a little bit, maybe you should rethink your life and how you can be happier. Inspired (apparently) by the completion of the pedal, when the builders proclaimed they loved this fuzz as much as they loved fishing, a new standard in pedal naming was created.

While the bears on the enclosure look like they’ve had relaxing afternoon catching their dinner (another excellent example of artwork from Jonas Claesson), this pedal’s true power is harnessed on the inside. The fuzz tones created by the Fishing Is As Fun As Fuzz were inspired by (but not duplicating) the ‘Civil War’-era Big Muffs, while giving the user a little more control over the tone and tightness of the effect. Volume, Tone and Drive make up the controls, and while there’s nothing too shocking or unique there, the range is what this pedal is all about. The enhanced tone sculpting abilities here give this fuzz a broader range than the muffs of old, while the range of fuzz in the Drive control allows to manipulate and illuminate the heaviness of the dirt put out in any way you see fit.

Ninevolt Pedals LogoVenturing into new territory but getting insight and inspiration from the past, the Fishing Is As Fun As Fuzz not only bears (see what we did there) resemblance to a classic fuzz, but adds in some new tones and controls to experiment with, giving you the best of both of these worlds. We’ve got a couple more Ninevolt Pedals to review for you, so stay tuned for those in the coming weeks and months. Cheers!
