Ninevolt Pedals Surfing Bear OverdriveThe hits just keep on coming from our friends across the sea at Ninevolt Pedals, and we’ve got another simple yet bold piece of gear for you from them today. The Surfing Bear Overdrive is loosely based on a classic green overdrive that may contain the numbers “808” in it, but with a bit more range and a couple differences. Let’s just see what this bright blue beast has in store for us…

The Volume, Tone and Drive control knobs are nothing new, but still essential to this pedal actually producing sound, right? A good chunk of volume output makes the overdriven sounds nice and noticeable, while the Drive and Tone knobs each have quite a nice sweeping spectrum for you to choose from. These two work play together, as different settings work to create a slew of sounds to throw at your amplifier. With a low current draw (15mA) and true bypass wiring, the Surfing Bear is a well-made crunch pedal that could easily make its home on any pedalboard.

Ninevolt Pedals LogoThe artwork, once again, has been created by the Australian artist Jonas Claesson, who is featured on each and every one of the Ninevolt series of pedals. The Surfing Bear is a simple overdrive, for sure, but it’s got a little spark and pizzaz not usually known to come from pedals in this affordable price range, making it a real stand-out. Continued thanks keep on going out to everyone at Ninevolt Pedals / One Control in Japan, who are making some really great gear. If you haven’t yet, go check ’em out (after you check out the demo below, of course).
