Pelican NoiseWorks Pelitaur FuzzAt first glance, one could easily mistake today’s featured pedal for a run-of-the-mill pseudo-copy of one of the most famous (and now expensive) effects pedals ever created. However, once you plug the Pelitaur into your amp and crank up the volume knob on your guitar or bass, you quickly realize that you were sorely mistaken, and apologize to no one in particular almost immediately. This pedal is a fuzz, but not a normal one, yet it yields many tones and shapes to sculpt the nasty, dirty, gritty sounds we are all constantly in search of.

The Pelitaur is actually made up of TWO fuzz circuits that run in parallel: one side is a giant, sputtery, vintage-sounding beast, while the other is a classic, mid-scooped, familiar-sounding fuzz that works well in any given situation. These circuits are basically blended together by way of the Gain knob, letting you dial in how much of each of these individual fuzzes you want present in the overall sound. The Treble knob acts as a unique and welcome tone sweep control – as you raise the highs in one circuit, it also boosts the lows in the other, making for a wide array of sounds to choose from. Finally, the Output knob controls the overall output level of the Pelitaur.

Looking for more tonal options? Well, crack this puppy open and you’ll discover some internal trim pots, which can be used to adjust the gain level of each fuzz circuit, really letting you customize the sound that you crave. The Pelitaur runs on standard 2.1mm 9V negative center power, is 100% hand-built and draws an extremely low 3mA of current. We were lucky enough to be able to snag one of these “Limited Silver Edition” pedals, too, making it not just an incredible piece of gear to add to our list, but a cool collector’s item as well.

If you want some more background on this pedal, it’s creation and its creator, check out the Weekly Interview Series we did with Leon Wright of Pelican Noiseworks a couple weeks ago (click here). This is their first pedal, and what a way to introduce themselves to the world of pedal people around the globe! We can’t wait to see what they come up with next, so stay tuned for more reviews of their gear (hopefully) in the near future, and don’t forget to check out the demo video below to really hear what this mythological beast is capable of doing.
