Hotone Audio A Station Acoustic Preamp DIIt’s been a little while since we checked out an acoustic effect here at Pedal of the Day, but we’re coming back in strong fashion, for sure. Today’s option-filled piece of gear comes to us from Hotone Audio, and is an acoustic player’s dream pedal. The A Station is an acoustic guitar preamp with D.I. AND a microphone preamp, with a ton of connectivity to multiple audio sources, and easy-to-use layout and some incredible tones as well.

The Notch and Notch Freq knobs work together to form a powerful frequency and gain control unit, to help fine tune tone and get rid of feedback. The Notch knob controls the Gain, while the Notch Freq adjusts the frequency. There’s a Mic Gain knob on this top row, too, which controls the Input Level of your microphone, which can be plugged in to the Mic In XLR or 1/4″ combo jack on the back of the pedal.

The powerful 3-band EQ really brings out the gusto of your guitar’s tone, enhancing and shaping your sound to perfection. With Bass, Middle and Treble controls, it’s a cinch to dial in just the right equalization for any performance or musical situation. While it stays on all the time, there’s a Mute switch to cleanly and silently stop your signal for doing different connection configurations and on-stage tuning. There’s a secondary footswitch here, too, Boost, which gives you a little extra juice when you launch into a solo, or to enhance any weaker signals you may have to deal with.

As for the rest of the back panel connections, there are a bunch to use as needed. Besides a mono input jack for your acoustic guitar, and another 1/4″ output jack for connecting to an acoustic amp, there’s a balanced XLR output for connecting to an audio interface or mixer. An Effects Loop adds another dimension to this setup, letting you add other effects into the mix for creating new and exciting dimensions of sound. Using the FX Loop Selector, you can choose to use the FX Loop on just your guitar, just your microphone or both.

Hotone Audio LogoAs far as acoustic effects go, the A Station is kinda one-stop shopping for singer-songwriters and acoustic lead players. With a bevy of options for audio and connectivity, it works easily in numerous sonic environments, quickly and clearly propelling your sound to the masses. Thanks to everyone at Hotone Audio for letting us check out this great pedal, and for getting us back into the swing of playing a little acoustic for a change. We’re going to take a look at their B Station Bass Preamp here in a couple weeks, so be sure to stop back and check that out as well!
