Beetronics Overhive Overdrive

A little while after we started this crazy Pedal of the Day adventure, we came across a new effects company that we knew were going to go places. Starting with their first Boos-tah Preamp, the crew at Beetronics has made a big name for themselves, and is now recognized as a true powerhouse in the pedal world. Today, we’re going to take a look at their Overhive Overdrive, a mid-gain rocker that brings a round, warm tone to compliment your amp, and reacts dynamically to your playing.

Up top, two small knobs control your Tone and Volume, but the main focus of the Overhive is the big button smack dab in the middle: Honey. This control starts off nice and subtle, increasing in crunch and drive as you slowly turn it clockwise. The Overhive is super responsive, putting the focus and amount of dirt that comes through right at your fingertips.

There are two other toggle switches present as well, for further tonal manipulation. On the left, the Hive switch can make you sound bigger and fatter, or tighter and thinner. On the right, Body bumps up your low end, creating a nice, full sound if you’re using thinner pickups, or just boost those low frequencies if you want ’em.

As with all of the pedals in the Beetronics’ lineup, the Overhive has a unique and original design, along with a jewel light on the side telling you when the effect is on or off, but not being pushy about it. This thing works so well in so many situations, we absolutely love it here at the office, and use it to help test other pedals as they come and go. Recently, we reviewed and demoed the Royal Jelly and Whoctahell pedals from Beetronics, so be sure to check out those links, and don’t forget to see and hear the Overhive in action below!
