Happy New Year!! Here’s to 2021 just absolutely being better than 2020 – let’s all do our best to be good, kind, decent humans and get on the road back to (somewhat) normalcy in the world, k? With that said, let’s start off the next 365 with a BANG, and by checking out a couple of incredible pedals from the past. Both beloved and revered in the vintage realm, the PN-2 Tremolo/Pan and the DC-3 Digital Dimension Chorus from Boss are legends in their own right. Both sporting wonderful Stereo Output capabilities, we wanted to showcase each on its own, as well as how they form a power team when combined.
Starting with the PN-2, which was sold from May 1990 to March 1995, you get a tremolo effect that varies the volume of your signal cyclically to create a pulsating speaker effect. Rate sets the speed, while Depth sets your intensity, which can be really subtle or super-bold and awesome. There’s also a 4-way Mode switch that gives you the options either Sawtooth or Square waveforms for either the Pan or Tremolo modes. Another fun feature is the LED light that blinks along with the tempo of the oscillator, perfect for dimly lit stages.
Now for the DC-3, the younger sibling to the very famous DC-2 Dimension C. Both are in the realm of chorus pedals, but the DC-3 is a digital effect, creating spacious and natural-sounding modulation. Level, EQ, Rate and Depth are the control knobs here, letting you accurately custom-tailor the sound to fit your rig and musical style. The stereo outs here also pair perfectly with the PN-2, for dual ambient bliss. The DC-3 was sold from March 1988 to August 1993.
