The legacy of ZVEX Effects now stretches back over a quarter of a century. Beginning in 1995, Zachary Vex has become known for his innovative and genre-bending pedals, gracing the boards of folks like Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, J Mascis, Billy Gibbons, Jack White and many more. Today, we’ve got one of their classic pedals for ya – the Box of Rock Distortion 25th Anniversary Vexter Series.
The Box of Rock is a staple in the ZVEX family of pedals, and this one is something special once more. While the internal circuitry remains the same, the outer shell features UV painted graphics, commemorating 25 years in the effects industry. The Vexter Series of pedal are initially assembled in Taiwan, but the final assembly is done here in the United States, providing a quality effect at a price that works for everyone.
As for the Box of Rock itself, this boost/distortion pedal emulates a 1966 Marshall JTM45 with all the knobs cranked up, which is Zachary’s favorite amp. The Boost and Distortion sides can be activated individually, or used in conjunction as an uber-powerful, amp-driving machine. The Boost is high headroom, giving you unity-to-50x gain, nominal input impedance and low hiss. The dirt side provides Volume, Tone and Drive controls, for wide-ranging overdriven and distorted tones in an instant.
The Box of Rock is setup so that you can set the Drive right where you need it, then control the distortion with your guitar’s Volume knob, making it really flexible and useful in any situation. A classic in the world of effects, this 25th Anniversary Vexter Series looks and sounds just as good as the originals did when they were released.
