HTJ-WORKS Bright Horse Boost Overdrive

The Ventura Overdrive from HTJ-WORKS was one of the best pedals we saw last month, and after putting it through the paces, we were excited for more gear from this Japanese company. Today, we’re bringing you another gorgeous-looking-and-sounding effect from them, the Bright Horse Boost Overdrive. Another take on a mysterious and mythical circuit, this 3-knob gem provides a wide range of amp-pushing and tone-shaping tones…

A modern take on the famous Klon, the Bright Horse features the same Gain, Treble and Output controls you’re familiar with. There’s also a small, external button up top, which allows you to easily switch between Buffered or Thru bypass options, great for seamless integration with any rig. The key to the sound is the clipping diode used, which has sound characteristics close to the famous Hitachi 1N34A, giving it authentic tone, one that you’ll want to use both on stage and in the studio.

Going easily from natural boost to low gain and crunchy overdrive, the Bright Horse Boost Overdrive is exactly what you’d expect…with a little bit of added sparkle and shine. We’ve checked out our fair share of Klon-type circuits here (see our Klone Wars demos on YouTube here), and this is one of the best ones yet. Cheers to Toru Kamigaito and all at HTJ-WORKS on a beauty of a pedal, both aesthetically and sonically. Be sure to check out their website for more info and more pedals, and check out our demo below to hear this one in action!!
