Being a designer by trade, aesthetics always have a way of playing into my love of pedals, and today’s creation is super clean, crisp and professional-looking…not to mention is sounds badass. The Tiptone Audio Devices LA-62: FET Leveling Amplifier is about as versatile as they come, bringing hints of preamp, distortion, compression, limiting and more to your pedalboard or studio recording setup. Not just for guitar, this one enhances any instrument or signal you can throw at it, making it a versatile piece of gear for any musical situation…
The LA-62 is a limiter/distortion effect inspired by a revered PA limiter of the 1960s. Through meticulous engineering, Tiptone Audio has incorporated enhancement to augment its versatility while faithfully preserving the distinctive gritty character of the original circuitry. It seamlessly integrates into various setups, performing adeptly whether deployed in the studio as a line-level device, or integrated into an instrument-level pedalboard.
Classic FET limiting and distortion. Instant attitude.
- Fully analog signal path
- Custom internal power supply raises voltages to +/-15V, allowing for high headroom suitable for line level signals
- Classic FET limiting circuit
- Variable DRIVE control increases distortion ranging from soft clipping to hard transistor saturation
- Variable two-pole low-pass filter with cutoff frequency ranging from 200Hz to 20kHz
- Independent level controls for effected and uneffected clean signal, allowing for parallel processing
- Relay-controlled true bypass with a soft-touch footswitch
- Balanced bypass: passes balanced signals in bypass if balanced TRS cabling is used
- Rugged stainless steel enclosure
In our demo below, we run through how the LA-62: FET Leveling Amplifier sounds on guitar, of course, but also on drums, using our trusty Korg Monotribe Analogue Ribbon Station. This showcases just a small portion of what this unit is capable of, and how it can vastly alter your tone, leading to more musical creativity and experimentation. I wasn’t sure what to expect when Tiptone Audio sent this one my way, and am stoked that it made its way into our shop. Thanks to those guys once again – be sure to check out their website for more info and ordering, and don’t skip our demo video over on YouTube – cheers!!
